Bee Care

Bees need tending too in the spring, summer/fall harvestĀ  and preparation for the long winter

Know your bees

Hive evaluations must be done each month with a focus in the spring and before wintering.
There are many things to look for but mostly to assure your bees and queen are healthy enough to live over winter.

Harvesting honey

Each hive can make up to 75 pounds of honey. It is always wonderful to enjoy and share the honey.
Even more important, 40-50 pounds of honey should be left to the bees.

Raw honey

Raw honey is collected by a beekeeper directly from the honey extractor.
Raw honey is unheated, unpasteurized, unprocessed and
unfiltered honey
with amazing health benefits such as it contains
bee pollen that is proven to combat seasonal allergies.
Raw honey helps detoxify and cleanse the body; it supplies
amino acids and vitamins for a higher energy level and better performance.

POLLEN

Bee Pollen is one of Mother Nature’s Perfect Foods!
It contains 25% protein (more than beef or eggs), ALL known nutrients,
all 20 amino acids, minerals, vitamins and enzymes.

Old Greenwich Honey is strained NOT filtered.

Honey vs SUGAR

Honey actually contains the same basic sugar units as table sugar. Both contain glucose and fructose. Granulated table sugar, or sucrose, has glucose and fructose hooked together, whereas in honey, fructose and glucose remain in individual units.
